Local Fraternity Chapter Gives Back to Nursing Home

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local fraternity is doing its part to give back to the community this holiday season.

Tuesday night, the Macon-Warner Robins alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., paid a visit to Heritage Healthcare on Anthony Road in Macon.

The group sang several classic Christmas songs to the residents as part of its philanthropic efforts around the region.

President of the chapter, Greg Dinkins II, says of all the events the chapter sponsors, this is one of the most fulfilling.

“This is something that we look forward to ever year, and the residents here, they look forward to it every year as well,” says Dinkins.  “We invite them to sing along with us as we sing Christmas carols, and we also have one of our brothers who will actually speak to them and just talk about the true meaning of Christmas and what it means this time of year.”

The chapter donated more than 100 gifts to the nursing home, ranging from toiletries to sweatshirts.  Heritage Healthcare will distribute the gifts to the residents as needed.

Teenagers ages 13-18 from the fraternity’s mentoring program were also present at the event.

Dinkins says the group assists the chapter in most of its community services activities, and the chapter also helps them with their homework and studying for tests like the SAT, among other things.

Dinkins says for some kids at that age, it’s vital that someone steps into their lives to help keep them on the right track to success in life.
