Local florist says Valentine’s Day is biggest holiday of the year for business

Lawrence Mayer Florist prepares for strong holiday as roses remain the top seller

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – With Valentine’s Day coming up, one local florist says the holiday is the biggest time of the year for their business.

Lawrence Mayer Florist has been family-owned since 1948. Owner John Mayer says his father started the business, and he has been running it for about 30 years.

Mayer says Valentine’s Day makes up a big chunk of their business and is by far their largest holiday of the year. He says business has been pretty busy so far, but it can vary depending on what day of the week Valentine’s Day falls on. Weather can also make a difference.

This year, he says they’re looking forward to good weather and a strong holiday.

When it comes to flowers, one option continues to stand out.

“It’s always number one as roses and red roses,” Mayer said. “That’s a traditional thing. We try to vary it up by having different designs and different looks, but roses are probably still 60 percent of Valentine’s business.”

Mayer says it’s not too late to place an order.
