Local Emergency Management Agencies Want to Make Sure You’re Safe In Case of A Disaster

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Since this week is Severe Weather Awareness week, local emergency management agencies want to make sure you’re safe in case of a disaster.  According to the National Weather Service, tornadoes are the number one severe weather related killer in Georgia causing 15 deaths and 143 injuries last year.  The Macon-Bibb county EMA Director, Don Druitt, says you should have a plan in place, food and water, and some where to go just in case a tornado hits. 

“We’ll we found out that most people are not as familiar with preparedness as they should be, so we ask to take this week for people to look at things like there safe room, find a place in your house or home that is safer than anywhere else in case a tornado does hit”, said Druitt.

According to a study from the Georgia EMA’s Ready Georgia Campaign, nearly 80-percent of Georgians admit to not being fully prepared for an emergency.
