Local Band Performs to Raise Money for Food Bank

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A local band from Warner Robins is doing their part to raise money for a good cause.

The Alex Tjoland Band will be playing two concerts to raise funds for the Middle Georgia Food Bank.
It’s going on as part of the “Attorney General’s Legal Food Frenzy,” a statewide program for the legal community to donate money and food to the needy.

Lawyer and member of the band, Bo Sammons, says 60% of Georgia’s public school children are on the free lunch program. He also says Mondays are the most attended school day of the week,
because these children are finally able to eat after being hungry for the entire weekend.

“There are schools in our communities,” Sammons says, “that [have] their cafeterias stay open during the summer with the sole purpose of feeding hungry children. So we’d like for people to come to these events and to give money to the Middle Georgia Food Bank.”

Sammons went on to say that aside from cash donations, the Food Bank is always looking for canned food, specifically canned proteins. He says beans, tuna, and even jars of peanut butter are good choices.

The Alex Tjoland Band will have their first concert Friday night at 7:30, at The Bare Bulb in Warner Robins. Their second concert will be on May 5th, at the Christ United Methodist Church.
