Local baker shares tips for decorating Halloween cookies

Owner of High Falls Cookie Company, Amanda Dismukes, says she began decorating cookies with her sister four years ago.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – High Falls Cookie Company is offering tips and tricks for people wanting to decorate holiday cookies.

Owner of High Falls Cookie Company, Amanda Dismukes, says she began decorating cookies with her sister four years ago.

Dismukes says when decorating cookies, it is best to outline the cookie with your icing. After you line the outside of the cookie, you can “flood” the inside with more icing.

“This is called a wet-on-wet technique,” says Dismukes. “It’s very simple for the children.”

Dismukes says you want to use a good gel food coloring that doesn’t have glycerin or oil in it. Dismukes says the glycerin and oil products do not dry as well when decorating the cookies.

“It usually takes anywhere from 8 to 48 hours for your cooke to dry,” says Dismukes. She adds that you can use a dehydrator to make the process go faster, but it is important to not put it in too long.

Dismukes is hosting a Thanksgiving and Christmas that is open to everyone.
