Local Author Shares Story That Hits Close to Home for Many

The stress of having a loved one enlist in the military is huge, as many of you in Middle Georgia already know. A Middle Georgia mom/author has written a book about her son, Specialist Thomas Watkins. She tells the story beginning with his decision to join, through boot camp, to deployment and his struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Tonight Sheila Melvin joined us to talk about her new book, “He Served, We Served.”

Melvin shared her story because she knows there are many people that can relate to her and her family. She wants others to know they’re not alone. This first book focuses on her son’s life to his time overseas. She plans to write another book that talks a great deal about PTSD.
