Local Air Force Amputee Gearing Up for Olympic Style Games

Timothy Anderson was driving home from work in 2005 when a motorcylce accident changed his life.

“I saw the car at the intersection at the street and I said to myself oh lord he’s going to pull out over here…I ended up on his hood and I don’t remember anything after that,” says Anderson.

Three years later, he made the decision to have his right leg amputated because of the pain. Now nearly 6 years later, Anderson is preparing to represent the Air Force in this years Warrior Games. The olympic style games give injured veterans and military members the chance to take home high honors, the coveted Commander’s Cup.

Anderson says being a part of the team has been a great experience so far and he is looking forward to competing in May.

“It’s easy to encourage other people, but it’s hard to encourage yourself, so they push me, I push them, we push each other.”

Anderson is even working on his own nonprofit organization, Sports Champions of America, to help disabled people participate in sports right here in Middle Georgia.
