Loaves and Fishes to host pilgrimage, raise awareness about homelessness in Middle Georgia

The 3-mile walk is designed to highlight the daily journey of individuals facing homelessness and food insecurity.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –Loaves and Fishes is hosting the “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” pilgrimage to raise awareness about homelessness in Middle Georgia.

The event is set for September 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning and ending at the Tubman Museum in downtown Macon.

The 3-mile walk is designed to highlight the daily journey of individuals facing homelessness and food insecurity. Participants will stop at several community support sites, including Loaves and Fishes Ministries Day Shelter, Weekend Lunch at Christ Church, Macon Outreach at Mulberry, and Day Break Shelter.

The event benefits Loaves and Fishes Ministry, a local nonprofit that provides meals, shelter, and resources for people in need.

General admission and virtual walker tickets are $30. Student tickets (ages 12 and up) are $20, while children 11 and younger can participate for free, though a T-shirt is not included. The event will be held rain or shine.

The pilgrimage will feature food trucks, face painting, guest speakers, and exhibits at the Tubman Museum following the walk.

The event is presented by Robins Financial Credit Union and Napier Enterprises, with support from local organizations including Atrium Health Navicent, OrthoGeorgia, United Way of Central Georgia, and others.
