Learning History through Art at Ocmulgee National Monument

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Families in our area took a hands-on approach to learning about Middle Georgia’s Native American history this weekend.

Childrens Crafts Weekend kicked off at the Ocmulgee National Monument this week. Park rangers talked with kids and parents about the history of the mounds and helped them create memories they could take home.

Park ranger Angela Bates showed the kids how to sculpt bowls similar to the ones that the Native Americans used to store food.

Covea Burch brought her two kids to introduce them to different cultures.

“We love arts and crafts,” Burch said, “I feel like exposure, that’s the key.”

The classes are free and will be held every Saturday this month from 3-4 p.m.
