Laurens County school athletic coordinator arrested, charged after allegedly slapping student

Larry Fleming, also known as Chip, was arrested on September 3 at 2:48 p.m. and bonded out the same day at 4:44 p.m. Fleming has been charged with simple battery.

LAURENS COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The East Laurens High School Athletic Director was arrested and charged for simple battery after allegedly slapping a student, according to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an incident report, the incident happened August 29 during a junior varsity football game.

Larry Fleming, also known as Chip, was arrested on September 3 at 2:48 p.m. and bonded out the same day at 4:44 p.m. Fleming has been charged with simple battery.

According to the incident report, deputies spoke with Principal Keldrick Burk, who refused to provide any information or access to video footage from the incident.

Burk stated he must investigate the incident before he would give a statement or consent to showing video. Burk also stated he advised the suspected offender, Chip Fleming, to separate and that he had probably left the campus.

The incident report states that Fleming had a disagreement with the student, then stood on the students feet so he couldn’t move, and slapped him in the face. The student did not appear to have any physical marks on his face.

The incident is currently under investigation.
