VIENNA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dooly County has a new sheriff in place after Sheriff Van Peavy died this week from complications in surgery.
A probate court judge has named Peavy’s son, Craig Peavy, as interim sheriff until a special election can be held in March to decide who will hold the position.
According to the county clerk, Craig Peavy began working as a sheriff’s deputy in 1987 and has served ever since. He’ll begin working as the interim sheriff effective immediately.
A special election to vote on who will be Dooly County’s next permanent sheriff is set for March 17.
