Houston County State Senator Larry Walker III elected president pro tempore of Georgia Senate
Perry Republican unanimously chosen by colleagues to help lead Senate operations

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Larry Walker III, a Republican from Perry, was unanimously elected today to serve as president pro tempore of the Georgia State Senate, according to a Senate announcement.
Walker said he is honored by the confidence his colleagues placed in him and pledged to focus on fiscal responsibility and limiting government burdens.
“We must keep Georgia on a path that rewards hard work, lives within its means and puts people ahead of politics,” Walker said. “Georgians deserve a government that works for them, not one that gets in their way.”
As president pro tempore, Walker will preside over Senate sessions in the absence of the lieutenant governor and work closely with Senate leadership to guide legislative operations and maintain an orderly legislative process at the Capitol.
Walker has represented Georgia’s 20th Senate District since 2015, serving Bleckley, Dodge, Dooly, Laurens, Treutlen, Pulaski, Wilcox and much of Houston County.
He previously served as secretary of the Senate Majority Caucus and currently chairs the Senate Committee on Insurance and Labor. Walker also serves as secretary of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs and chairs the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Natural Resources.
A lifelong Middle Georgian, Walker was born and raised in Perry and graduated from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. Before entering public service, he worked in the private sector as an accountant and small business owner.
