Large Sports Complex Planned For Bartow County

EMERSON, GA – A state lawmaker says he and his business partners have closed on a deal to bring a new sports complex with 30 athletic fields, restaurants and hotels to Bartow County.

Rep. Earl Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, tells the Marietta Daily Journal that LakePoint Sports Development LLC is planning the complex for more than 1,200 acres near Interstate 75 in Emerson.

Ehrhart said construction is to begin Monday, and it’s expected to open in May 2013.

The company said in a statement that the LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center will include fields for baseball, soccer and lacrosse, a 118,000-square-foot indoor sports facility, about 20 restaurants and about 1,500 hotel rooms.

Developers had initially envisioned the project in Powder Springs, but moved it to Emerson after talks with Cobb County leaders ended.
