MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT-DT) – A man is dead after a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 16 early Wednesday morning.

The wreck happened at 5:37 a.m. on I-16 eastbound at Coliseum Drive, shutting down all lanes near the State Route 87/U.S. 80/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit on August 6. The truck, which was pulling tandem trailers, left the roadway and traveled onto the left shoulder, hitting a construction barrier. It then moved across to the right shoulder and struck another barrier before coming to a stop.

All eastbound lanes in the area remain closed as authorities investigate and work to clear the scene. The Georgia Department of Transportation is urging drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
