Lane Southern Orchards invites families to experience peach season

Tyler Wainwright, Farm Manager at Lane Southern Orchards, says while they do not offer a u-pick option, they do offer an inside look in the packing house.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Peach season is officially underway and Lane Southern Orchards is welcoming visitors to experience a behind the scenes experience.

Tyler Wainwright, Farm Manager at Lane Southern Orchards, says while they do not offer a u-pick option, they do offer an inside look in the packing house. Visitors can get a bird’s eye view of the packing before the peaches are shipped out.

According to Wainwright, they plant the peach trees in the winter, and then it takes three years for the peach tree to start producing peaches.

“The first steps will be pruning the peach tree, you know, shaping it where it will be able to provide good peaches” says Wainwright. “And then you’ll thin it down and start picking.”

Wainwright says it is free to experience the behind the scenes process of the peach packing.
