KATHLEEN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Lake Joy Trails of Terror is using its Halloween season to raise money and resources for local children facing critical or life-altering illnesses.

Owner Mike Kelly says the haunted attraction originally started as a way to raise money for breast cancer. The organization later began working with Jay’s Hope to raise money for children who are sick.

Kelly says giving back to the community remains a major reason behind the attraction.

“We like giving back to the community,” he said. “That’s where my heart is.”

This year, Lake Joy Trails of Terror is also working to raise money for a disability playground in the community.

The playground is expected to cost $250,000. Kelly says $40,000 has been raised so far.

Lake Joy Trails of Terror, located at 428 A Lake Joy Road in Kathleen, encourages people looking for Halloween fun to visit the attraction while also supporting its efforts to give back to local families.
