LaGarde Named A-Sun Conference Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – After helping the Mercer baseball team tie the record for its best start to a season in program history, senior outfielder Sasha LaGarde was honored by being named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

LaGarde had a monster week at the plate for the Bears, who went a perfect 5-0 last week and are one of only three teams in the nation to have a perfect 8-0 record through the first two weekends of the season.

The Montreal, Quebec native batted .455 for the week which included four multi-hit contests. LaGarde clubbed three home runs, collected 10 RBI, scored 10 runs and recorded the first multi-home run game of his career when he went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in a 12-4 win over Florida A&M on Feb. 18.

LaGarde currently leads the A-Sun Conference with four home runs, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored and 25 total bases.

Mercer looks to make history and start a season with nine-straight wins for the first time ever when it welcomes Savannah State into town on February 25. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Claude Smith Field.
