Kumho Tire to Start Bibb Co. Construction in 2012

When word got out that Kumho Tire would open a production plant in south BibbCounty, the hope of economic success and job creation got middle Georgia excited. But that was in 2008, just before the economy tanked, delaying Kumho’s production.

Now Bibb County officials working with Kumho say the company is on schedule to start construction next summer. Had the new tire plant started operation on time, the benefits would have been tremendous for middle Georgia.

“A lot of that economic impact spread throughout the community. Increase volume at the shops at River Crossing, increase volume at auto dealers and everybody else. It’s just, it kind of spreads out like a mushroom,” said Chip Cherry of the Macon-Bibb Chamber of Commerce.
