Kroger Commemorates 9/11 with Donations

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Kroger grocery store is doing its part to save lives and serve the Bibb County community.

In honor of the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks the Kroger, located at 220 Tom Hill Sr. Blvd., gave hundreds of dollars and equipment to local law enforcement agencies.

According to officials eleven people have died from fires this year in Bibb County.

Kroger donated 100 smoke detectors, and 911 packs of Duracell batteries to the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.

Kroger also gave $500 to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

“We’re glad today to serve this community in this capacity and be able to share and put in working smoke detectors in our citizens homes,” said Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Chief, Marvin Riggins.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said his office already knows how they are going to use the Kroger donation.

“The funds that they gave us will really help us to buy teaching materials for our new champ programs,” said Sheriff Davis.

Fire Chief Riggins is asking residents to call the fire department to receive a free smoke detector. Firefighters will come out and properly install the smoke detectors and give fire safety tips.
