Knights Down Doughboys, 38-7

BONAIRE, Georgia (MGSC RELEASE) – The Middle Georgia State Knights defeated the Fort Benning Doughboys 38-7 Saturday at Bonaire Middle School.

The Knights took an early lead on a 52-yard touchdown run by QB Kion Button in the first quarter. RB Rico Lyons added the second touchdown on a 66-yard run in the second quarter. After threatening late in the first half, the Knights were stopped at the one yard line on a fourth down play and went to halftime up 14-0.

The Knights would come out in the second half and add 7 more on an interception return by Xavier Morris of 31 yards. The Knights added 17 more points in the fourth on a 32-yard field goal by Brayton Smith, 2 yard touchdown run by Button, and a 46-yard interception return by Arrico Ogletree. The Doughboys scored their only touchdown in the third quarter on a wide receiver screen that was broken for over 50 yards after a missed tackle.

The Knights, ranked 5th in the NCFA entering the contest, move to 2-0 on the season and are 1-0 in conference. The next game is Saturday, September 21 at 1 p.m. against the Atlanta Sports Academy. The game will be at Mount de Sales Stadium in Macon.
