King of Kazoo Rick Hubbard says the event is March 28 at the Macon amphitheater.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Macon is attempting to break the world record for largest kazoo ensemble.

The event is March 28 at Atrium Health Amphitheater, which is located at 3657 Eisenhower Pkwy in Macon. Gates open at 4 p.m. and the attempt begins at 6 p.m. There will be a performance to follow. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 6 and under.

President and CEO of Visit Macon Gary Wheat says all of the proceeds from the event will go to the Otis Redding Foundation and Otis Redding Center for the Arts.

According to Visit Macon, organizers are attempting to facilitate the largest kazoo ensemble, bringing the record home to the United States- and legacy of the kazoo back to where it all began in Macon almost 200 years ago. The current record is 5,190 participants and was achieved in London in 2011.

Kazoo expert Rick Hubbard will facilitate the attempt as thousands gather to play along to a track of songs all connected to Macon.

Visit Macon will provide kazoos to everyone.
