Kilo Ali: Out of Prison, Back in the Studio

Macon is known for it’s diverse music scene, so it was no surprise when rap music artist Andrell Rogers better known as “Kilo Ali” made a popular name for himself during the 90’s.

In the summer of 1998, Kilo made a choice that put his music on pause. He quickly went from a lifestyle of the rich and famous to a life of hardknocks.

“When I got the charge I was going through a lot of mental stress, then when you’re going through those types of things with artists we feel rebellious, I’m in a rebellious state.”

Arson charges pulled Kilo out of the spotlight. With family and friends drifting out of his life, he took a downward turn.

“A house I burned up.” When asked if it was his house Kilo said, “My house.”

“Giving too much of myself to people was one of my mistakes…”

Those mistakes eventually led Kilo to the Macon Transitional Center where he was put on a work release program. He got a job working at a local restaurant and started to get his life back in order.

Kilo was released from MTC in late December. His latest album, “Hieroglyphics” is his first album in 13 years since releasing “Organized Bass.”
