Kid’s Fishing Derby Reels in More Than 415 Fishers
Kids and families gathered at Javors Lucas Lake beginning at 5:30 a.m. to participate in the 7th annual Macon Water Authorities Kid’s Fishing Derby.
This annual event brings children of all ages together with their families for some outdoor fun, food and a little competition – but mostly to enjoy the day by reeling in some catfish.
The MWA partners with several sponsors each year in order to provide each family with their own bait, and prizes, like iPads and fishing poles, for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
One little fisher, Michael Harrell, 8, enjoyed the day with his family and gave 41NBC the scoop on getting the perfect catch.
“You have to put the worm in your mouth and see if it’s good and then put it on the hook and throw it out and then the fish will bite it,” Michael said.
Trucks of catfish were dumped into Javors Lucas Lake, so that every fisher can reel in on the fun.
The lake also serves as a source of drinking water for the Macon and Bibb County area
Congratulations to the winners with the most catches!
