Kidnapping Suspect Leads Police on High Speed Chase through Monroe, Bibb Counties

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man wanted for kidnapping and several other charges was arrested Saturday after leading police on a high speed chase through Monroe and Bibb Counties.

The chase began around 11:30 a.m. on Interstate 75 southbound when a Monroe County deputy attempted to stop a speeding vehicle. According to Allison Selman-Willis with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the chase began once the driver refused to stop.

The 23 mile long pursuit ended at Tindall Heights near Mercer University in Macon. At that time, the driver of the car, Charles Heard of Adel, jumped out of the moving vehicle. Both Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Macon Police officers chased the suspect on foot. MPD officers caught Heard and he was arrested.

Heard is charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, felony obstruction and reckless conduct. He is also wanted in Berrien County and Cook County for rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment, theft by taking and aggravated assault with a firearm charges.
