Kenneth Yasger discusses eliminating Georgia income tax, raising teacher pay in 2026 Governor race
Yasger is a U.S. Army and Georgia Army National Guard veteran who is campaigning as a political outsider, saying his focus is on putting Georgians first rather than partisan politics

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – He is highlighting his years of service in the military and in the service industry as experiences that shaped his leadership approach.
Among his top policy proposals, Yasger supports eliminating Georgia’s state income tax and suspending the gas tax to provide financial relief for families. He also outlined plans to raise teacher salaries by capping education administrative pay, arguing that more funding should go directly into classrooms.
The candidate also voiced support for legalizing marijuana and gambling as potential revenue sources for the state, while emphasizing the need for expanded mental health resources to address gun violence. Yasger said he does not support additional firearm restrictions, instead pointing to early intervention and treatment programs as long-term solutions.
Yasger acknowledged he is facing well-funded opponents in the Republican primary but said his campaign is focused on community engagement rather than large fundraising operations. He has also spoken publicly about donating portions of his campaign funds to local charities.
Georgia’s gubernatorial primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026, with the general election set for November. 41NBC will continue its ongoing coverage with interviews from candidates across the political spectrum.
