Keeping Organized: The tools you need for photo organizing

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – So now you’ve got all of your photos out and in one place ready to be sorted. But while you may have the talent, you still need the tools!

Professional organizer Andi Willis has a few suggestions on what items you need to keep those memories from fading fast:

1) Gloves, for working with older photos so you can avoid ruining them with your fingerprints. The oils in your fingers will also do a number on older photos barely fighting back the onslaught of time.

2) A dust mask, especially if you have an allergy to dust and mildew. Old photo albums just sitting around for years tend to collect these like it’s going out of style.

3) Trash bags, for tossing away any pictures you have duplicates of, or ones you simple just do not want.

4) Card stock or index cards, to help you along with the sorting process. You can use a regular marker to write on them, but not for the actual photos themselves.

5) For that, you will need photo safe writing implements such as specifically made pencils and markers acquired at any hobby store.

6) A photo box to keep everything sorted. This is a good idea for keeping photos organized in the short term.

7) A magnifying glass, to see if there’s any small print you’re struggling to find legible.

8) A pad of paper or computer nearby, in order to write down notes on the stories that your photos actually tell.

9) Wax dental floss and a vinyl crafting spatula to help remove photos stuck in old albums with plastic overlays.
