Keeping Organized: Digital Photos

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – You may have countless pictures in boxes and photo albums, but a lot of people have the majority of their photos stored digitally. And hundreds, or even thousands of digital photos can be difficult to organize. Personal organizer Andi Willis is back to show us what you can do to keep everything in order.

First and foremost, before you start gathering and sorting, you need to have a place where your digital photos can be kept. That’s usually going to be a computer, whether it’s an ordinary desktop or a more mobile laptop.

Once you have that, it’s time to find all of those “loose” photos. They can come from a variety of sources, like SD cards from digital cameras, a USB drive, on old compact discs, or perhaps an external hard-drive.

Mostly, however, you will have your photos on your phone. You’re going to need to transfer those photos into your computer in some fashion, and it’s usually a very simple process. You can easily Google the question to find what your particular brand or model of cell phone needs in order to get data from one place to the next.

Once you’ve got everything in one place, you’re going to need to back it up. You can put everything in the cloud using companies like Carbonite, Backblaze, or iCloud. Or you can use another external hard-drive, and place it off-site like at a friend’s house or a safety deposit box at a bank. You can keep another back-up in your own home, but it’s important to have redundancy in case something unforeseen strikes when least expected.
