Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful to host Georgia Arbor Day events

National Arbor Day is in April, but Georgia Arbor Day is on the third Friday in February. KMBB says Georgia Arbor Day is in February because it is the ideal time to plant trees in the state.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) is hosting two events in honor of Georgia Arbor Day.

National Arbor Day is in April, but Georgia Arbor Day is on the third Friday in February. KMBB says Georgia Arbor Day is in February because it is the ideal time to plant trees in the state.

On February 20, KMBB will partner with Alexander II Elementary School for Georgia Arbor Day from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Third grade students will join KMBB at Tattnall Square Park for a “Walking With Trees” tour with Edward the Arborist.

According to a news release, students will learn basic tree identification, how to measure and compute a tree’s critical root zone, the importance of pruning and how angles are used in tree work for safety. Each student will receive a tree seedling compliments of the Georgia Forestry Commission.

KMBB  will also host a Sip & Stroll Georgia Arbor Day event at Wesleyan Colleges’ Arboretum on February 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
