Juvenile arrested following bomb threat at middle school in Washington County

Sheriff Joel Cochran says that deputies received a tip concerning a bomb threat directed at T.J. Elder Middle School, which had been circulating on social media Monday night. 

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An 11-year-old was arrested and charged after posting a bomb threat online, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Joel Cochran says that deputies received a tip concerning a bomb threat directed at T.J. Elder Middle School, which had been circulating on social media Monday night.

The Sandersville Police Department and Washington County Board of Education Police launched an investigation.

With an hour of the receiving the tip, law enforcement identified and questioned the suspect, an 11-year-old student at T.J. Elder Middle School.

The juvenile, who is in 6th grade, was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts, felony and criminal attempt to disrupt a public school.

Sheriff Cochran says he wants to assure the community that there is no known ongoing threat to the school or its students.
