Jury finds Calmer guilty of killing Monroe Co. deputy
MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After less than 45 minutes of deliberating, an Upson County jury found Christopher Calmer guilty on all nine charges in the 2014 killing of Monroe County deputy Michael Norris.
According to Sgt. Lawson Bittick with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the jury found Calmer guilty on nine counts including: Malice Murder, Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer.
Sgt. Bittick says there was a crowd of about 60 people outside the courthouse awaiting the verdict.
Calmer could receive the death penalty during the sentencing phase.
