Judge rules on Gordon city attorney

MONTICELLO, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Jasper County judge ruled Joseph Boone will continue to represent the City of Gordon, that’s according to city councilman Terry Eady.

During a city council meeting in May, Mayor Mary Ann Whipple Lue made a motion to remove Boone from his position. Three board members voted yes, two voted no, and one abstained from the vote.

In order to have a motion pass, there needed to be a majority. Whipple Lue cast the deciding vote.

After that vote, there was a motion to hire Ronnie Jones as the interim city attorney. Eady says the mayor illegally voted during that motion too.

Boone was never lawfully terminated. Both attorneys worked for the city while this issue was sorted out.

At a hearing on Tuesday, both sides presented evidence. Eady tells 41NBC the judge ruled against Jones and said the mayor is only allowed to vote if there is a three to three tie.

Boone told 41NBC over the phone, “Hopefully the city can move on…and get back on track.”

The order went into effect immediately.
