Jones County Sheriff’s Deputies looking for speeders during the holidays

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Law enforcement across the state, especially in Middle Georgia, are on high alert looking for speeders, DUI’s, and other traffic violations.

Jones County Sheriff’s Office is one of several law enforcement agencies patrolling highways and side streets.  41NBC News rode along with Deputy Angel Feliciano when he pulled over a driver on Highway 49.  Deputy Feliciano ticketed the woman for speeding. He clocked her doing 84 miles-per-hour in a 55 mph speed zone.

“We’re trying to slow everybody down, trying to get them there safely,” said Feliciano. “I always tell everybody it’s better to be late than don’t get there at all.”

The Jones County deputy also stopped two cars along Joycliff Road, where the last fatal car crash happened in the county this past summer.

“It’s a big deterrent for people not to speed,” added Jones County Sheriff Office Capt. James Clark. “Of course when they see us out there they slow down. But, if they don’t see us out there of course they’ll speed.”
