Jones County boy racing to raise money for childhood cancer

LIZELLA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 41NBC is rounding out childhood cancer awareness month by shining the spotlight on a young Jones County go-kart racer and how he is taking the fight all the way to the end of the race.

Racers, start your engines, and take the battle against childhood cancer to the track. Eleven year old Logan Glover started racing go-karts three years ago.

“Whenever I watched NASCAR on TV, it [was] just really fun and I was seeing if I could do that in my league,” Logan said. “That’s what I want to be when I grow up.”

Logan has friends and family who are battling cancer and he wanted to help.

“He’s healthy, he knows that, but it really bothers him that other kids can’t do the things that he can do,” Logan’s father, James Glover said.

And that is what’s driving him.

“Seeing the kids that barely have a life being born with cancer and dying,” Logan said.

Almost a year ago, Logan and his racing team partnered with the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation to raise money for childhood cancer.

“He went around the whole house collecting any penny, dime, nickel, anything he could find and piled it all up on the living room floor and started counting it,” James said.

Logan collects donations at every race he goes to. He also spreads awareness with every lap.

“He started talking about it and people started opening up,” James said. “People would come around and donate in our drop box.”

Logan’s dad is proud of his son, saying he’s always shown love and concern for others. He adds they will take this fight against childhood cancer all the way to the checkered flag.

“Cancer started the fight, but we’re going to finish it,” James said. “It’s basically saying no matter what life throws on you, whether it’s cancer or whatever, take it head on and fight till the end.”

Logan wants to raise $5,000 by the end of the year. So far, he’s raised about $2,300.
