Jay’s Hope supports childhood cancer awareness month

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Katie Sanders was diagnosed in October of 2011 with a brain tumor. She and her family leaned on Jay’s Hope during their time of need. They are forever grateful for the love and support they received.

Katie described Jay’s Hope as a family. After her diagnosis, Katie has immediate surgery to remove the brain tumor. She then spent a couple months in rehab. Despite this setback, Katie will graduate high school on time and possibly, at the top 5% of her class.

Katie and her mother, Marcy, agree that Jay’s Hope helped them through this difficult time.

“They sent cards, they sent gifts. They did anything and everything we could have ever asked for. They are just there for you 100%,” recalled Marcy.

“Jay’s Hope really helped by paying the medical bills and just providing a source of support and comfort,” explained Katie.

Christie Johnson is the Community Relations Coordinator for Jay’s Hope. She said their top priority is love.

“That’s out main goal.. to embrace these families and let them know that they’re not alone in this battle against childhood cancer,” said Johnson.

Jay’s Hope is hosting an awareness campaign this month at local schools called “Hats for Hope”. Kids wear a hat to school and donate a dollar to help support local children battling cancer. They’re also hosting The Royal Celebration of Hope in Forsyth on September 20th and a motorcycle ride through Jones County called “Hogs for Hope” on September 26th.
