Long-time MWA board member, Javors Lucas dies
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb community is remembering the life of the longest-standing member of the Macon Water Authority, Javors Lucas.
According to Coroner Leon Jones, Lucas passed away at his home Monday afternoon due to natural causes.
At 96-years-old, Lucas continued serving District 2.
“Even though it’s a fact of life, it’s a part of life,” his daughter and state representative Miriam Paris said. “It’s still very difficult to say goodbye to him. Like they say, old soldiers, don’t die. They fade away, and my dad just faded away this morning.”
Paris says her father not only leaves behind a legacy for the Lucas family but the Macon-Bibb community.
The legacy
“Even at 90 years old, my dad was able to win his election off of just his good reputation with the people that he served,” she said.
Lucas took office in August 1982 serving District 2.
“My dad made sure people had running water,” Paris said. “Just because they didn’t have money, wasn’t a reason to not have running water.”
Lucas was a sign painter and a World War II veteran. Paris says he took pride in his occupations.
He was a father of seven kids. Paris credits her father for her accomplishments.
“I think my dad kind of saw, ‘hey let me point her in a direction that I think she could accomplish some things on her own,’ Paris said. “He’s really the reason I ever stepped one foot, one toe into politics.”
Funeral arrangements have not been made yet.
