ISO ratings drop in Gray; residents to pay lower insurance premiums

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents in Gray will soon see a change in their home insurance premiums. The state recently lowered the city fire department’s ISO rating from a 5 to a 4.

The lower the better.

The rating affects how much residents and businesses will pay in insurance rates. Mayor Stephen Tingen says the ISO improvement isn’t just a win for home owners, but it also could attract more business.

“They look at your police. They look at your safety. They look at your fire service. All of those things make a difference, you know, when you’re looking to start a new business in a small community. So yes, it’s a gain that we can make for our citizens, and it’s also something that we can do for economic development,” Tingen said.

Tingen says the city brought in a group to evaluate ways the fire department can improve including better equipment and fixing up the city’s water system.

He adds people should start to see a change June 1st.
