Inmate stabs warden at Telfair State Prison during shakedown

GDC says Warden Andrew McFarlane is doing well

TELFAIR COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An inmate stabbed a warden on Wednesday at the Telfair State Prison.

Staff were conducting a shakedown to remove contraband from a dorm around 11:30 a.m. and the inmates refused to lockdown, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

An inmate stabbed the warden with a homemade weapon.

The warden, Andrew McFarlane,  was treated for superficial wounds and is expected to be okay.

GDC says the inmate responsible for stabbing the warden will be held accountable and turned over for investigation and prosecution.

Less-lethal munitions were deployed to get the inmates to comply with commands during the incident.

The went into lockdown as standard procedure following an incident.

GDC says there were no additional injuries to staff or inmates and there was minimal damage.

The stabbing is still under investigation.
