Inmate sentenced to 25 years for stabbing at Bibb County jail in Macon
The stabbing happened August 23, 2023, while Willis and the victim were housed at the jail.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man has been sentenced to 25 years after pleading guilty to stabbing another inmate at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center in 2023.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Brandon Carnell Willis pleaded guilty October 13 to aggravated assault and possession of prohibited items by inmates. He was sentenced to 25 years, with 12 years to serve, under Georgia’s First Offender Act.
The stabbing happened August 23, 2023, while Willis and the victim were housed at the jail.
Prosecutors said surveillance footage showed Willis walking through a cell hall before entering a cell outside the camera’s view. He later emerged with his face covered by a T-shirt.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, surveillance cameras captured Willis stabbing the victim multiple times with a homemade weapon before pushing him into a shower area.
The victim was later seen in the cell hall with serious injuries before losing consciousness.
Deputies responded, and the victim was taken to a hospital, where he recovered.
Before being transported, the victim identified Willis as the person who stabbed him. Prosecutors said surveillance footage supported that identification.
Investigators also used details captured on surveillance video, including a black band on Willis’ left wrist and the way his pants were tied, to identify him despite his covered face.
District Attorney Anita R. Howard released the following statement:
“Everyone in a jail, whether they are held there or work there, has the right to be safe,” said District Attorney Anita R. Howard. “This defendant tried to hide his identity, and the evidence left no doubt about who was responsible. Being in custody does not put anyone beyond accountability, and this sentence reflects that.”
According to prosecutors, Willis was being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center at the time of the stabbing on aggravated assault charges stemming from a separate incident June 5, 2023.
That case and other cases involving Willis remain pending.
