Inmate found dead in Washington County Jail, investigation underway
A jailer found the inmate unresponsive in his cell at approximately 7:17 a.m.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate was found dead in his cell on Tuesday morning.
A jailer found the inmate unresponsive in his cell at approximately 7:17 a.m. The inmate was recently transferred from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office on June 14.
The Eastman Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Washington County Coroner’s Office investigated the incident.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says an autopsy will be conducted on the inmate for an official cause of death, however it appears the inmate died from what seems to be a medical event due to an underlying medical condition.
Sheriff Joel Cochran says the the inmate was in a his own cell at the time of the incident.
