Inmate found dead inside Bibb County Law Enforcement Center

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate inside the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate inside the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

According to a news release, deputies discovered the inmate unresponsive inside his cell around 12:28 a.m. Friday.

Deputies provided lifesaving measures until emergency medical services arrived. Deputy Bibb County Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced the inmate dead at the law enforcement center.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will perform an autopsy because the death occurred while the inmate was in custody.

Internal Affairs investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards are investigating the incident.

The inmate’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
