In Wake of Shootings, C. Jack Ellis Criticizes Mayor Reichert for Misplaced Priorities
As the outrage from last week’s violence grows, former Mayor C. Jack Ellis spoke with community members following Mayor Reichert’s news conference on how to address the problem.
Ellis says growing crime is the result of misplaced priorities on the city’s part. Both he and former State Senator Robert Brown agree that Reichert’s emphasis on projects like 2nd Street improvements over the economic concerns are part of the issue.
“The question must be asked, where have you been for the last three and a half years, with your plan? Where was your plan last year when we had some 23 homicides in our city?–which we all realize that one homicide is, in fact, one too many,” Ellis said to Macon residents.
Senator Brown suggested that the “conservative regime” in Macon is hurting the community, and there needs to be a progressive movement to address the crime issue.
