Icy Roads Create Treacherous Driving Conditions
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency is urging drivers to avoid I-75 north.
The agency says there have been numerous reports of accidents heading north of the I-75 and I-16 interchange toward Pierce Avenue. Sand trucks are on the way to the scene.
If you are driving in that direction, you should find an alternative route.
At least two tractor trailers jackkniffed in Monore County on I-75 near mile marker 198. Monroe County EMA Director Mattew Perry says drivers should not “come into Monroe County using the interstate” and urges everyone to stay home. Perry says ice caused the accident. No word on how long it will take to clear the scene.
Mercer University Drive and Pio Nono Avenue should also be avoided. 41NBC’s Karlisha Booze was driving on her way to work and tells us traffic was backed up in that area. She tells us there is black ice in that area and cars were stopped in the middle of the road. She couldn’t reverse her vehicle without the wheels spinning.
Reports say there is an accident with injuries at Bass and Forsyth roads. Drivers should avoid the area.
