I-16 bridge crash driver identified
The driver responsible for the crash that resulted in the closing of I-16 and subsequent demolition of the State Route 86 overpass has been identified as Cecil Reeves.
SOPERTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The driver responsible for the crash that resulted in the closing of I-16 and subsequent demolition of the State Route 86 overpass has been identified as Cecil Reeves.
The Georgia State Patrol’s crash report states that Reeves was traveling westbound on I-16 when, according to Reeves, the dump function initiator on the truck malfunctioned. Reeves said this malfunction caused the hopper to elevate the bed into the dump position, and as a result, the trailer impacted the east side of the State Route 86 overpass.
There were no injuries to Reeves, his passenger, or anyone else during the incident.
Information on any actions taken concerning Reeves and whether or not his license has been suspended has yet to be released.
