Bibb County students commit to teaching careers at Hutchings Signing Day
Hutchings Career Academy honored seniors planning to become educators during its Teacher Signing Day, with support from families, mentors and Bibb County Schools.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Hutchings Career Academy hosted its Teacher Signing Day on Wednesday to celebrate graduating seniors who are committing to careers in education.
Knowing there is an urgent need for teachers in Georgia, Teaching as a Profession instructor Jennifer Davis says teaching is a big deal because you have to dedicate your life to it.
“To me, teaching is a life of service,” she said. “You’re dedicating yourself, your time, your energy, time away from your kids… things like that to invest into the future. So, I think they know they’re loved, and we appreciate them for wanting to become educators.”
Davis says these seniors having support from their families and teachers will help them evolve in their future educating career.
“We won’t sugar coat it,” she said. “It’s a difficult career to have. But, when you see the support, like people support us, and just seeing that in a celebration like this, it’s really important at the start of your career and your journey into education.”
Teaching as a Profession senior Nyla Palmer says encouraging children is her passion.
“For me, I just really enjoyed being around children and knowing I’m able to pour into them what was once poured into me,” she said.
She says she will take what her teachers taught her and continue to spread that into her future students.
“I believe I make a difference by being a well-rounded educator and making sure I not only provide students’ academic needs but social and emotional needs as well,” she added.
The Bibb County School District says this celebration will continue to bring excitement to students willing to step up and take the challenge of becoming an educator.
