Hunter finds human skull near northeast of Atlanta

AUBURN, Ga. (AP) – Sheriff’s officials northeast of Atlanta say they’re searching an area near the town of Auburn for bones after a hunter found a skull.

Gwinnett County Cpl. Michele Pihera said the hunter called 911 around 3 p.m. Tuesday after finding the skull. She said the medical examiner confirmed the remains were human.

Pihera said bones were found nearby, but many bones remained unaccounted for. She said a search for more bones was planned for Wednesday.

Authorities say they do not yet know whether any crimes were committed, and the identity of the remains was unknown.

Auburn is about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta.
