Hundreds Welcome Home Mercer Bears

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Mercer Bears basketball team came home to a cheering crowd of fans Thursday. The Bears brought home the College Insider Tournament Championship, after defeating Utah State 70- 67 Wednesday.

Mercer’s victory secured the team a spot in Atlantic Sun History as the first team to capture a post season crown.  Mercer finished the season 27-11.

For senior Justin Cecil it feels good to go out with a win.

“It’s a dream come true. You always want to end your final season on a win and bring home the championship and we got the opportunity with the CIT to do that. And then playing at Utah State, one of the toughest places in country, to play at I mean just to come back even with a lot of people doubting us we knew we had the support of our fans,” said Justin Cecil, Mercer Basketball.

Mercer Point Guard Langston Hall was awarded the tournament’s most valuable player award.
