Hundreds of students participate in Hats 4 Hope

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A teacher at a Bibb elementary school is saying ‘thank you’ to her students, and other schools in Middle Georgia.

Valeria Jackson’s son was diagnosed with cancer.

She’s wearing a hat to show her support for “Jay’s Hope,” an organization that helps kids and their families who are battling the disease.

Students and staff at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary wore hats today and participate in “Hats for Hope.”

“I try to rally every child that I see to ensure that today they wear there hats not only to support Jay’s Hope, but also as a teaching moment that is a good thing to give back to your community,” Jackson said.

Each person donated a dollar for the cause.

More than 100 Middle Georgia schools participated in the program, and last year it raised  more than $30,000.
