Hundreds March in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hundreds marched into downtown Macon to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Residents from North, East, South, and West Macon flooded to City Hall to honor a legacy.

Patricia Fraley was one participant. she says, “This is our movement still in 2012. We will excel just like Martin Luther King said.”

The Gooch family also participated in the celebration. “We’ve come far. We’ve come leaps and bounds… just to see everyone come together to celebrate his legacy and what he stood for,” says Mrs. Gooch.

City employees concerned over being transferred to the county through the service delivery strategy also used today to spread their own message.

“Dr. King was slain supporting striking sanitation workers. We have 142 workers being transferred to the county we want to be sure our politicians understand their needs,” says Michael Gardner.

Anthony Collins adds, “Even though that’s been a longtime ago…years and years ago the public work employees are still struggling to get ahead.”

Marchers at today’s event tell 41 NBC this is the biggest turn out they’ve seen, and they are honored to keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s mission alive.
