Hundreds Honor Fallen Soldiers in Middle Georgia Memorial Day Ceremonies

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hundreds gathered to honor fallen soldiers at Linwood Cemetery and Macon Memorial Park in Macon for Memorial Day.

Memorial Day means many things to many soldiers. No matter the branch of service, or the years served, the day leaves heavy hearts for friends and family of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our home.

Staff Sgt. Timothy S. Hamlin is in the U.S. Army. He was born and raised in Macon and was the keynote speaker for the Memorial Day ceremony at Linwood Cemetery.

“The soldiers that lay here in these graves and the graves across the United States of America those graves that have been forgotten,” Hamlin said. “I stand here in my duty uniform in support of those soldiers that fell because they fell in the line of duty.”

Retired and active duty military personnel filled the ceremony and paid tribute to those who lost their lives.

For Sgt. Hamlin, this day is also about faith.

“I have to go back and remember that it was God that set his Son on the cross, so without him I would not be here.”

Bibb County Commission candidate Paul Bronson is the U.S. Army Reserve.

“I had the personal experience having buried seven soldiers, they were good friends of mine, out of the 40th brigade out of Macon Georgia, Bronson said. “It means a lot.”

Hamlin wanted everyone to remember those who came before us.
