Hundreds Attend Mass to Say Goodbye to 27 Year Old Lauren Giddings

Hundreds of people gathered Saturday evening to honor the memory of Lauren Teresa Giddings. The 27 year old Mercer Law graduate was a devout Catholic and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Macon.

“These last few days have been dark days,” says Chaplain Craig McMahan, Mercer University.

His words echoed off the walls and filled the hearts of the people mourning the loss of Lauren Giddings. Rhonda Roelle-Taylor, a clerk at the public defenders office, says Lauren was a remarkable young lawyer.

“There’s so much about her that you really can’t capture in a service.”

Family, friends, and her professors gathered together in a traditional Catholic Mass. After the bread was broken, Lauren’s last words were read from a journal she kept during her time as a law student. Her professor, Sarah Gerwig-Moore, shared them at the end of the mass.

“I forget sometimes at my job at it’s most basic sense it’s people going through horrible time in their lives. Of course they’re upset.”
